Saratoga sets all-sources handle record at $676.7M

Saratoga Race Course set a record for total pari-mutuel handle with $676,709,490 wagered during the 40-day meet that ended Sept. 4, according to the New York Racing Association.

This year’s all-sources wagering figure was up 4.4% from the previous record set in 2015.

NYRA said on-track handle increased 3.4% to $157,014,965. The figure includes wagers on Saratoga races made at Aqueduct Racetrack and Belmont Park and through the NYRA Bets advance deposit wagering system.

Travers Stakes day Aug. 26 generated $47,870,987 in bets, up 5% from 2016.

Michael Dubb won his fourth consecutive leading owner title with 15 victories, while Todd Pletcher was leading trainer with 40 wins and Jose Ortiz captured the riding title for a second straight year with 58 wins.
