PA Equine Coalition in midst of public outreach effort to show industry’s impact

In the aftermatch of an announcement by Gov. Tom Wolf that his upcoming fiscal year budget would shift $204 million a year from the Race Horse Development Trust Fund to pay for a college scholarship program, the state’s equine racing and breeding industry embarked on a major public outreach and social media campaign to show its economic impact in the state.

The effort is being led by the Pennsylvania Equine Coalition, which is made up of Thoroughbred and Standardbred horsemen’s groups and breeders’ associations. The PEC also partners with the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission on the $2 million-a-year industry marketing program, which is paid for through a legislated contribution from the purse fund.

Aspects of the campaign are available at the PEC Facebook page.
