The New York Racing Association April 2 said the 60-day Aqueduct Racetrack winter meet, which ran from Dec. 7, 2018, through March 31 generated all-sources pari-mutuel handle of $335,521,091, up 14.2% from the same meet in 2017-18.
Fewer weather-related cancellations played a major role in the wagering increase. For 2017-18, there were 10 cancellations, which resulted in 53 racing programs for the meet; for 2018-19, there were only three cancellations and 60 live racing programs.
On-track handle was $40,881,947, up 20.1% from the corresponding dates in 2017-18. Average daily handle over the course of the 60 days of live racing was $5,592,018, up 1% from the comparable period a year ago.
