The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has scheduled two important meetings during this year’s Saratoga Race Course meet.
A general membership meeting will be held July 25 at noon behind the Recreation Hall on Union Ave. A barbecue lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. Those who plan to attend should RSVP to the NYTHA office at 516-488-2337 or via email to abelfiore@nytha.com.
NYTHA also is seeking to update contact information for its members, and it urges managing owners to provide information on their partners. Contact information, including email addresses and the last horse owners have raced at a New York Racing Association track, should be sent to abelfiore@nytha.com or to NYTHA, P.O. Box 170070, Jamaica, NY, 11417.
As 2017 is an election year, the NYTHA general nominating meeting will be held Aug. 29 at Saratoga. The NYTHA Nominating Committee includes trainer Abigail Adsit, NYTHA Executive Director Andy Belfiore, and trainer Mark Hennig, who serves as chair.
Ballots will be sent out in October, and the new board of directors will take office in December. All qualified NYTHA members may participate in electing the board.
Elections are held every three years. There are three options for eligible members who would like to be included on the ballot:
- If you would like to be a candidate for owner/director, trainer/director, or president, submit your nomination to a member of the Nominating Committee. You can also send an email to abelfiore@nytha.com. The deadline to submit your name for candidacy to the Nominating Committee is Aug. 14.
- Nominations can be made from the floor during the general nominating meeting Aug. 29 if the member consents in writing to the nomination. The nomination has to have two (2) seconds and must be accompanied by a petition signed by at least thirty (30) members of the association.
- For a period of 15 days after the general nominating meeting, additional candidates may be nominated by petition signed by at least fifty (50) members in good standing, provided the petition is filed with the NYTHA Nominating Committee during the 15-day period following the general nominating meeting and is accompanied by the candidate’s affidavit and policy statement, if any.
Those who want to participate in the voting process as a NYTHA member should register online at http://nytha.com/members/registration.aspx or contact the NYTHA office at 516-488-2337 or by email to abelfiore@nytha.com so records can be updated and members can be provided with information during the election process. Managing owners are urged to provide the NYTHA office with an updated partner list and contact information as soon as possible.
