The New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has issued a reminder that the deadline for individuals to submit their names for candidacy for owner/director, trainer/director, or president to the NYTHA Nominating Committee is Aug. 14.
The committee includes trainer Abigail Adsit, NYTHA Executive Director Andy Belfiore, and trainer Mark Henning, who serves as chair. Emails from interested parties can also be sent to abelfiore@nytha.com.
After Aug. 14, there are two other options to get on the ballot:
1) Nominations can be made from the floor during the general nomination meeting Aug. 29 in the tent behind the recreation hall on Union Ave. at Saratoga Race Course. The member must consent in writing to the nomination, and the nomination has to have two (2) seconds and must be accompanied by a petition signed by at least thirty (30) members of the association.
2) For a period of 15 days after the general nomination meeting, additional candidates may be nominated by petition signed by at least fifty (50) members in good standing, provided the petition is filed with the NYTHA Nominating Committee during the 15-day period following the general nomination meeting and is accompanied by the candidate’s affidavit and policy statement, if any.
The 2017 NYTHA election is set for this fall. Ballots will go out in October, and the new board will take office in December. NYTHA elections are held every three years. All qualified NYTHA members may participate in electing the board of directors. For more information, go to: http://nytha.com/members/voting.aspx.
