Illinois THA creates committee to monitor issues related to simulcasting

The Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association has created a Simulcasting Committee that will review the export of Illinois signals to simulcast outlets, the organization said Dec. 27.

ITHA President Mike Campbell appointed the following board members to the new committee: Marty Nixon, George Mellon, Steve Holland, and Michael Langdon. The committee will meet to review simulcasting issues as they arise, the horsemen’s group said.

The ITHA, in an effort to educate its membership, this year began posting on its website regular reports on pari-mutuel handle and the percentages from wagering that go to purses. Depending on the source of a wager, the percentages vary greatly.

Betting through out-of-state outlets and advance deposit wagering services have accounted for almost 90% of handle on live races at Hawthorne Race Course this year, according to the latest report posted at itharacing.com. Almost 75% of total purse revenue was derived from full-card simulcasts in Illinois.
