More than 25 horses—Thoroughbreds, Arabians and lead ponies—will be presented and offered for sale during the “End of Meet Showcase” at Delaware Park Oct. 29.
The sale of horses headed to retirement is sponsored by the track, Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association, CANTER USA Delaware and Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue.
The sale, scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, will be held in the stable area in the Lasix and receiving barns. Public access will be available through the stable gate (Gate 4) adjacent the owner/trainer parking lot.
All sales will be negotiated directly between the buyer and the seller.
The “Showcase” was held for the first time last year and was successful, DTHA Executive Director Bessie Gruwell said. Horses were introduced one by one, and commentary was provided by individuals who work with retired racehorses.
Gruwell said that last year there were cash transactions for horses in the sale as well as follow-up sales of horses that were offered. The Delaware Park race meet ends Oct. 21, and Gruwell said it’s possible more horses will be added to the sale thereafter.
