Aided by beautiful weather conditions, the Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association held a very successful “Family Fun Day” at Delaware Park June 15.

DTHA officials said hundreds of adults and children packed the track’s picnic grove, located on the clubhouse turn, throughout the day. The Delaware company Jump On Over provided inflatables and games, and there were other attractions as well as low-priced concession items courtesy of the DTHA.

“We attracted a great crowd,” DTHA Executive Director Bessie Gruwell said. “The event went from 12:30 to 5 p.m. during live racing, and many people were asking if could go on for a few more hours.”

On-track pari-mutuel handle on the eight-race live program was $118,203, up 14.5% from the previous Saturday, and total wagering on the live product again topped $1 million on a Saturday; off-track handle on Delaware Park races is much higher on weekdays when it has a more prominent position in the simulcast market.
