A bill that would allow New Jersey residents with advance deposit wagering accounts to place bets when they are not in the state is advancing through the state legislature.
4NJBets, operated by TVG, is the only licensed and legal ADW provider in New Jersey. Under current law, customers can only make wagers when they are in the state.
The bill passed the Assembly on a 73-0 vote on June 29 and was sent to the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee for consideration.
“A resident of this state who has established an account with an account wagering licensee may place an account wager through the licensee while physically present in New Jersey, or while physically present in another jurisdiction if placing such a wager is not inconsistent with the law of that jurisdiction or with federal law,” the bill states.
Lawmakers who co-sponsored the bill issued the following statement: “Allowing our residents to place their bets while traveling out of the state will help ensure New Jersey does not lose out on wagering revenue and that it will remain within our system. Just because our residents are taking a trip doesn’t mean they should have to miss out on the excitement of betting on their favorite sporting event. This bill would allow New Jerseyans to remain a part of the action even if they aren’t currently within our state borders.”
