The importance of the horseracing industry and its need for additional revenue was discussed during an April 11 hearing of the Illinois Senate Appropriations Committee on agriculture issues and spending.
Department of Agriculture Director John Sullivan in comments to lawmakers explained the economic value of horse racing and breeding and how far it has declined in recent years. He called the situation “drastic.”
